Swoon’s intricate installation cutouts are mesmerizing and, as her street name suggests, brings the viewer to an overwhelming state of ecstatic joy. So it was exciting to learn through Arrested Motion that the awe-inspiring street artist has recently unveiled an installation for the New Orleans Museum of Art entitled Thalassa. Named for the Greek Goddess of the sea and inspired by The Big Easy’s ties to the Gulf of Mexico, the female deity invigorates the museum’s Great Hall with powerful imagery transforming the space from the ordinary to the mythical.
If you live in the New Orleans area or have plans to visit, make it a point to see Swoon’s work in person. Exhibition runs until September 25th.
