On April 21st, Merry Karnowsky Gallery presented ‘One Step Beyond’, a solo exhibition by Johnny ‘KMNDZ’ Rodriguez. This new collection of work introduces human figures to accompany, or perhaps mirror, his signature robotic counterparts. Bringing back usual suspects, the paintings are filled with intricate birds, beads, bombs and typography that interact with characters of flesh, and steel.
Johnny states about the show, “Aside from trying to push my art further and painting outside my comfort zone, the show is a love letter to all of my friends lost. It’s about sharing my hope in life and the beyond. With newly introduced renderings of people in my work, it’s like discovering painting all over again.”
